OneNote - Synchronisation Error (Code 0xE0000063) on moving parts between notebooks

Hi,

in the last days I wanted to reorganize my notes in different one Note notebooks but it turned out that the desktop tool on Windows10 is not able to move/copy several notes.

Which turned out finally resulted in loosing all notes of one very important notebook, also there are no backup files in my userprofile folder (Appdata/Microsoft/OneNote folder does not exist). Fortunately my laptop had not synchronized until that so I could manually copy all parts manually.

I now have a notebook which synchronized only with the section names but the content in every section is not synchronized at all and displayed like this in the web-page.

I thought it was a problem that I moved too many sites/sections at the same time and now tried the same with a different notbook but it seems that this notbook has now the same problem. It synchronized only the title pages but no content and is now displaying all the time error 0xE0000063 (synchronization not possible)

  • I'm really intersted why a synchronization is not possble, in the original notebook it was synchronized perfectly?
  • why does oneNote don't do a move/copy of a section in an atomic way? (erasing old section only after copying and synchronization to the new section)

--> at the moment on a move it deletes data from the old section and copies data locally to the new section but then states it can not synchronize the notebook in which the new section is. While synchronizing the notebook of the old section perfectly, which results in erasing the data from the cloud server. It then can't be recovered via deleted files and folder!

First I was impressed when I got to know oneNote in the company I work. But seems that they have a better version where local files can be used and then also be backupped.

The version I have available on my new Win10 Laptop seems not to allow backup and local files and it completely messed up moving sections.

I hope there is soon a solution to this, otherwise I would change again to using openOffice in my cloud storage for notes, there I can store and backup all the content I want.

kind regards

Johann--

Try copying the pages into a new notebook. This method worked for me. Just don't use the MOVE function. You may get a few error pop-ups, but double check by copying the link and pulling it up online to verify the data has synced properly.

Since you can still access the sections of your notebook, we recommend resetting the OneNote app. Backup the contents of your notebook to a Word document or any text-based app because this procedure will delete the app's data on your PC.

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Type Apps & features.
    3. Click OneNote.
    4. Click Advanced options.
    5. Click Reset then Reset again.
    6. Reset your PC.

Please update us with the results.

    Hello Devlin Sco,

thank you for your answer. I am a little bit confused how to backup the content of the non-syncing notebook. I think backing up into a different document like word is only possible with the desktop version of OneNote. I am using the app version of OneNote. There aren't any option for exporting files in the same way like in the desktop version of OneNote.

I hope you can gove me some hints how to backup the data before reset.

    kind regards Johann
