If your reports are correctly built and linked, then you should not have to set ANY properties in order for that subreport to show data. Of course, this assumes that your tables are setup correctly, but we can't know that without more information.
Allow Data Edit has no bearing on REports, since you cannot edit data in a report.
You don't have to create any additional queries to Print a Report. When you open that report, you should be seeing the Print ribbon, which allows you control over that process.
