I changed the language to German, however it doesn't show any spelling or grammar errors.
I checked the languages popup, and it says "not installed", even though it's selected.
"Not installed" is a link, however clicking on it takes me to a page not found error on the MS site.
How do I get it to properly proof check documents in other languages?

Thanks. Yes, I was aware of the 32 vs 64 bit office thing, however my point was more that I downloaded "setup language pack", rather than "proofing tools".
I have no idea what the differences are, however this seemed to work. Therefore it's also confusing what these two packages do. I installed the 64bit language pack and now I can proof in German.
However, what's the difference, which would I really need, what have I been and gone and done...
Unless you have 64-bit Office (which is highly unlikely), the 64-bit proofing tools will not work for you. You will need proofingtools2016_de-de-x86.exe, which you can get by following the procedure I outlined.
Thanks.
I ended up downloading this in the meantime, after some research:
setuplanguagepack.x64.de-de_.exe
what's the difference between the two?
I think there's a couple of things here that need addressing within the product.
both of those ought to be considered bugs IMHO.
thanks for your help
Dave
You will need to download and install the necessary proofing tools. Here is where you start. Select the desired language and click Download. You'll be offered a choice of two versions: x64.exe and x86.exe. Unless you have 64-bit Office (which is very rare; even if you have 64-bit Windows, Microsoft recommends installing 32-bit Office), you want the x86.exe version.
