Excel 2016: Performance in Page Layout view

Excel for Mac 15.24 (build 160709) has performance issues when switching between sheets. Whenever the destination sheet is in page layout view, it takes several seconds for the sheet to display. Similarly, whenever the destination sheet is normal view, the switch is normal. This is long enough to notice and enough for Mac OS to display the spinning beach ball. This was readily reproducible across workbooks and Mac devices, even on a brand new (blank) workbook.

Is this a known bug?

    Thanks!

I'm now on 15.26 (build 160903) and the issue still persists. However, the logging I previously provided is now gone and nothing is written into Console.

I've also noticed similar performance issues when zooming in/out of a sheet in Page Layout view. Using the slider and -/+ icons in the bottom right lag in reaction by 0.5-1 second, while the same in Normal View is fluid.

15.25 is now in general release. Try it.

Thanks for the followup. I'm still running Excel 15.24 (160709) since I'm not on the Insider program. Was able to collect a few logs and this is what shows up:

When I transition from a Normal sheet to a sheet in Page Layout view

8/21/16 10:59:19.084 AM WindowServer[198]: disable_update_timeout: UI updates were forcibly disabled by application "Microsoft Excel" for over 1.00 seconds. Server has re-enabled them.

8/21/16 10:59:20.458 AM WindowServer[198]: common_reenable_update: UI updates were finally reenabled by application "Microsoft Excel" after 2.37 seconds [0.42fps] (server forcibly re-enabled them after 1.00 seconds [1.00fps])

When I change the view of the current sheet from Normal view to Page Layout view

8/21/16 11:00:19.381 AM WindowServer[198]: disable_update_timeout: UI updates were forcibly disabled by application "Microsoft Excel" for over 1.00 seconds. Server has re-enabled them.

8/21/16 11:00:20.692 AM WindowServer[198]: common_reenable_update: UI updates were finally reenabled by application "Microsoft Excel" after 2.31 seconds [0.43fps] (server forcibly re-enabled them after 1.00 seconds [1.00fps])

I hope this is resolved in 15.26, when it gets out for production release.

    Hi

I just tried in Excel 15.26 build 160817 and could not reproduce the problem. Perhaps this was addressed in the 15.25 or 15.26 updates.

    Hey,

I suggest that you may rather try to update to the latest versions of Office 2016 for mac - to v15.25 or insider v15.26 and see if this is going to be of any assistance to you in being able to fix this issue and if this is not going to help you then you may rather try and see if setting up a new mac user will help you to fix the issue; try updating Office 2016 for mac from Help -> Check For Updates -> Check for Updates and to upgrade to Office for mac insider program select to option ‘Join the Office Insider program to get early access to new releases’ and select Check for Updates.
