Return to classic SharePoint option missing when creating new page.

This option shows up on other pages, just not the new page option.

  1. Open Settings (GEAR)
  2. Select Add a Page
  3. New "look" is displayed for creating new page.

No Return to classic SharePoint option is available in the normal (or anywhere) lower left-hand corner (see image).

Tried saving, publishing the page - still no option. Edited the new page - still no option.

If I edit an older page that is in the Classic UI, it stays in the Classic UI when opened for editing. This bug only appears to affect new pages, and pages created in the "new" look.

Hi Kevin,

To help us in confirming the environment in SharePoint Online in your tenant, please provide us with the following screenshots.

  1. A screenshot showing the outcome after you navigate to a SharePoint library>Return to the classic SharePoint>Settings>Site contents>Site Pages> click the New option to create a site page.

  1. The screenshot of the Site content page in the affected SharePoint site.

Thanks,

Cliff

Finally, we have success! Even this route was not working until now. Thank you!

    Kevin

Cliff, what you are suggesting is the part of the problem. When I am in classic view on the site, I add a new page, and the new page edit screen starts up in the new view without a way to get back to classic. I can save the new page, close it, then try reopening it while I am in classic view and the page goes to the new look again. Which puts me right back to where I started from, unable to add a web app.

This is NOT a new feature request. This is a design bug that should have a high priority as it does create a stoppage of work with no work-around available for creating new pages needing web apps with custom views of a list.

    Thanks, Kevin

Cliff, this now creates a bigger problem.

Right now, the new view will not support adding web apps to a page. This is critical functionality for building an SP site as the list views are filtered for certain information, and many times will have multiple views depending on the business process. The only way to add a web app is through the Classic view - which is now unavailable as you have put it. This is not good.

    Thanks, Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

The Return to classic SharePoint option is only available in a SharePoint library or list not site pages.

So what you encountered is a normal behavior.

    Thanks,

    Cliff
