Cross-referencing figure in word for mac troubleshooting please!

I have a word for mac document with multiple figures (.png files) with captions inserted using the referencing tab. Sometimes, where i have the cross-references within the main text of my document, it inserts the figure which is cross-referenced.

It only seems to happen occasionally, and I can't work out why.... any thoughts/ tips would be helpful.

It doesn't seem to happen when I do anything specific.

Each cross-reference makes use of a hidden bookmark that encloses the cross-referenced paragraph. Unfortunately, if you add anything at the beginning of a cross-referenced paragraph (for example if you press Enter and continue typing or add a picture) that content will be included inside the bookmark and, consequently, show up in the cross-reference. To work around this, you can recreate the affected cross-references.

To avoid the problem in the future, never press Enter at the beginning of a cross-referenced item. Press Enter at the end of the previous paragraph instead.

    Hi Ella,

Can you provide an example of the issue? As well as the steps (with screenshots) you did on how you encounter it? To help us better understand your case.

Also, can you confirm if you have the latest version of Office application? To update, go to Help > Check for updates. Provide the version of Office as well as the Mac OS version for us to verify.

    Thanks,

    Mike
