A cell cannot be split; it is not like a table cell in Word

Cells can be joined with the Merge & Center tool

    best wishes

You have to do it the other way round.

Insert as many columns as you need for entering data - in your example, that would be 2 extra columns between column B and column C.

    Then select B1:D1.

Click the little arrow in the lower right corner of the Alignment group on the Home tab of the ribbon.

Select 'Center Across Selection' as horizontal alignment, then click OK.

    Do the same for B2:D2.

I have entered your SO# text in E2

I have selected cells  E2:G2   and used the Merge & Center tool

Column E is made wider; columns F & G  narrower

    Border have been applied

    Any help?

    best wishes

    hi

I cannot have it go onto   E2:G2  . it would need to be only in column E.
