MS Planner does not post comments for tasks

Hello Microsoft team,

Within the German version of MS Planner (tasks.office.com) I found a weird behavior. Sometimes I was not able to post a comment for a task. Later I discovered in which case the post button does not work.

You can reproduce the issue with the following steps (I only have access to the German version of MS Planner so I hope my translation is sufficient enough that you can understand me. If it's not the case, just ask.):

  1. Create a new task within any plan. Call that task "Test task" for example and assign yourself to this new task. After that create it with the "Create task" button.
  2. Navigate to the area "My tasks". You should be able to see your "Test task" there now.
  3. Click the text "Test task" to call the card of your "Test task".
  4. In my example the comment field has the heading "Comments 2". Enter a comment in that field (e. g. "Test").
  5. Click the "Post"-button. I tried that way within to different accounts (my own account and that of my colleague). Here the "Post"-Button does not do anything.
  6. Close the card "Test task" and navigate to the plan, where you created the "Test task" before.
  7. Call the card of the "Test task" directly from that plan.
  8. In this card the comment field also has the heading "Comment 2". Enter the comment "Test" there again.
  9. If you click the "Post"-button now it suddenly works. Your "Test" comment will be added and the comment fields heading changes in "Comments 3".
  10. Navigate to the "My tasks" area and call the "Test task" card from there again.
  11. Enter another comment in the comment field (e. g. "Test 2").
  12. A click on the Post-Button suddenly works.

Result

If a task has no (manually created) comment yet, it also is not possible to add a new comment within that task called from the "My tasks" area. Are manually created comments already available, it doesn't matter where the task card was called from. You then are capable of creating a comment from everywhere.

In my opinion it looks like a bug. Whom should I tell this, that this will be corrected?

Cheers,

Marc

    Hello Spike,

Sorry for my late answer. This is because I've got a day free at last Friday and because of the weekend.

It's interesting to learn, that attaching comments to a task is also a matter of time. But why Planner behaves like that? It does not make any sense to me, you can instantly add a comment from the plan, but not from "My tasks". To immediately post a comment right after a task is created, seems to be a good workaround. But will Microsoft change this strange behavior?

    Regards,

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

Thanks for your updates in PM.

After a task is assigned to a user, it may take about 30 mins to 1 hour  before the user can add comment to this task.

Also, you can first use the task card in Plan View to post comments, then add comments in My tasks view.

    Regards,

    Spike

    Hi Marc,

    Thanks for sharing the feedback.

I’ll look into it and test it on my side. At present, please use the workaround which is using the task card in Plan View to post comments.

Meanwhile, I’d like to collect some tenant information to engage with our related team. I’ve sent you a private message for it.

    Regards,

    Fraser
