    federate user could only change the password from the local AD side

    Hi Dpavetto,

    Here is my assumption:

    1. About “Federate user”, do you mean you have deployed single sign on (SSO) via ADFS or other federation technologies?
    2. Federated users cannot change password in Office 365 portal, with the error message.

    If not, please correct me. 

    If so, this is an expected behavior. By default, ADFS federated users cannot change password in Office 365. They are redirected to on-premise ADFS for authentication. Password change nees to be done from on-premise AD.

    Moreover, to manage their on-premises AD passwords from the cloud, we can deploy Password Writeback feature. For detailed information, please see:
