Unable to install either 32-bit or 64-bit Project 2016

I recently received a new workstation as my Surface Pro died. I have Win 10/64-bit running on this. The version is pre-AU as our McAfee version doesn't allow the AU to be installed (yet).

I installed Office 365 Pro Plus on my workstation. I believe it is the 16-bit version. (Can't seem to tell. I have version 1609.)

I went to install Project 2016 from MSDN and I received an error message on the 32-bit version saying I can't install the 32-bit version because, "Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component 64-bit Registration" is installed. It wants me to uninstall all 64-bit Office Programs.

I figured, that isn't an issue. I downloaded the 64-bit version and tried to install that. I then get the message, that it can't install the 64-bit version because, "Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibiliy Component" is installed.

Any idea what might be going on here?

Found my problem. This is annoying.

My computer was installed with a managed click-to-run version of OPP.  The MSDN version of Project (which is apparently an Office Product) is Installer based.

Can't install the two on the same machine for some unfathomable reason.

    Hi Kai,

If you have a volume license for Project 2016 and/or Visio 2016 and you’re trying in install the Click-to-Run version of Office 365 ProPlus, you can use the Office Deployment Tool to download and install the Click-to-Run perpetual (stand-alone) versions of Project 2016 and/or Visio 2016. See Use the Office Deployment Tool to install volume licensed editions of Visio 2016 and Project 2016.

    Thanks,

    Frank

I'll ty that out. Still makes zero sense why the developers would make the license something that can conflict.

what update? I gave up and installed the MSDN version of both.

stupid that installs are this tricky. they should be stand-alone and not be managed.
