Custom header option crashes Excel

In my excel worksheets I want to change my custom headers through the page setup menu. I am simply replacing one character in the header.

When prompt the page setup box with 'OK' I receive a pop up error message saying, "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

In the Telemetry Log I receive a title of "Application closed due to a problem" and offered this

link. Which if you go to table 2 and number 12 it says "Something caused a critical error in the application and it needed to close." for the description... not very helpful :/

I am able to use this feature if I transfer the file to an identical machine that the only difference is it's running Excel 2010.

Machine specs:

64-bit

Windows 10 Pro

Excel 2013

I am assuming this is a version issue not yet addressed in 2013? But any insight would be helpful. Thanks :)

I found a few workarounds but would still appreciate an actual solution.

Solution/workarounds:

  • Convert to 32-bit Microsoft Office (Best option.. I have not had any problems with this so far)
  • File > Print > Page Setup > Change header and footer information > OK (works sometimes)
  • Changing printers and/or printer settings
