Excel Opens 2nd window that only includes formula bar

I've got Microsoft office 2016 and am running Windows 7.  When opening an excel file so that it is maximized I get a second blank window with the excel icon in the top left corner and only the formula bar in it.  It just started doing this and it rather aggravating as when I move the spreadsheet I opened to my other screen the blank one flashes and I can't just close the blank window.  If i open the same excel file so that it's not maximized the second window does not open.  It's almost like they're the same window and attached to one another.  Does anyone know of a fix for this?

I have found the reason, why it is happening - there is conflict between nview from nvidia and some apps of office365 (excel with second window and outlook with issue of opening some message windows after plug in/off the second monitor/projector).

If you uninstall nview from your comp, the issue with excel will be gone.

Same issue here. I am not running Crystal Reports.

I am suspecting this happens when I open a file from Outlook attachement but I don't have enough data to back it up. Sometimes it's not there, other times it is.

I have the same issue. Narrowed it down to if Excel is opened maximized, the second blank window opens.

If Excel is opened as normal window, no second window.

Tried other fixes such as others have posted here with none working. Tried repair utility, online repair utility, full uninstall and new install from Office 365. Still have issue.

Thanks, Tomaaas, for the solution. I uninstalled nview and so far I haven't had the issue.

I think I figured out how to get this to stop. If excel isn't maximized when it starts up, the second window doesn't appear. To test

I closed all of my office application.

    1. Open Excel

    2.  If excel is maximized hit the restore down button. (If its not you probably don't have the second window.)

    3.  Close all instances of excel (the last one closed should be "Restored down").

    4.  Reopen Excel, When you reopen the excel should start restored down and there should be no second window.

I have a PSR with screen shots. If anybody needs that.
