Office 365 DNS Errors

Anonymous

I was troubleshooting an email issue, and came across the following DNS error, it said the MX Record was not configured.

Expecting: domain.name.mail.protection.outlook.com

Actual Record: domain.name.mail.eo.outlook.com

Actual Records: ms80521740.msv1.invalid

Have Microsoft change the Office 365 MX record address? If so what will happen if I change it? At the moment emails are still flowing.

Hi James,

Thank you for providing the information on the private message. Try to change the MX record to the expected record that is listed on the “Check DNS” result. After the change, there will be no impact on the mail flow as this is the suggested MX record by Office 365.

Looking forward to you updates.

Best Regards,

Ruel

    Hi James,

    There is no update done.

When you update an MX record, it will route emails to the correct mailbox on Office 365, this depends if you are using only one MX record on your organization. If you are using multiple MX records, try to change the preference of the mail routing MX record to a higher priority setting. You can refer to this article.

After verifying your DNS records, check the list and enter the correct MX record that was suggested.

    Here is an example:

    Domain: contoso.com

    MX record: contoso-com.mail.protection.outlook.com

Please provide the following information to understand the scenario:

    1. Are you using Custom domain, or Office 365 manages the domain (onmicrosoft)?

    1. Screenshots showing the status of the DNS verifications in Admin portal (New Admin Portal > Domain > Select Domain > Check DNS).

To protect your privacy, you can share it in this Private Message link.

    Looking forward to you updates.

    Best Regards,

    Ruel
