Help! I can't open my file after I did the final save.  From my limited research it seems to have happened because I input a graphic on the same page as the table of contents.  I tried the service patch fix and it said it wasn't needed.  Please help I need this for work.

    Hi Christina,

Based on your description, you can follow the steps below:

    1. Right click on the Word file and select “Rename".
    2. Rename the Word file along with extension to ZIP file format.
    3. Find the XML file in ZIP file then open with Notepad++.

4.You need to add a plugin called XML Tools, you can find it in Plugins > Plugin Manager > Show Plugin Manager.

    1. Choose Pretty Print (XML only – with line breaks).
    2. Convert back the XML file to ZIP and then change the extension from ZIP to DOCX.
    3. Try to open DOCX file, you will find same error message, but when you choose details option you can view which line has error.
    4. Search for the line in XML file and then delete the whole tag.
    5. Copy XML back to ZIP file and then rename the extension again to DOCX file and try to open the document.

If you upload a copy of the file to a folder on your OneDrive and set that FOLDER to be shared and get a link to the folder and paste it into a message that you post back here, someone may be able to recover the file for you.

Alternatively, upload a copy of the document to the following folder of my OneDrive

and send me an email to the address shown in my signature and I will see if I can recover your document.
