Summary % Work Complete is100% when first sub task is marked complete

In MS Project 2016 I have a summary task (Task type=fixed duration) with 5 sub-tasks (type fixed work).

When I marked the 1 of 5 sub tasks 100% work complete, the Summary task % Work Complete field updated to 100%.  This shouldn't show 100% complete until all 5 tasks are complete.

The summary task and sub tasks are all set to Auto Schedule.  The calculate project after each edit is set to on.

Any suggestions

Hi John, thank you for the prompt reply.  I looked at the simplest and most granular summary task in my plan that only had one sub task.  Yes, I am up to date,  all tasks are auto,  the duration's match at all levels.  The issue seems to be that I have a resource assigned to a summary task.  By removing this it recalcs properly.

I know the old rule of thumb is not to assign resources to summary tasks, but am doing this because we are linking to Team Services (VSO) and running this project as Agile. The summary task is a Story, and the sub task is a Task.  Since we need the story to be assigned to a resource for ownership, this forces the summary task to have a resource.

Do you have an feedback to address this further?

    Best Regards,

    Bob

That doesn't happen on my Project 2016, so firstly make sure you have updated Project with the latest updates.

If only the task you set to 100% has a resource assigned, then what has happened is correct. The only work will be on the first task so the summary tasks will be 100% work complete, but not 100% Complete (% Duration complete).

The two % completes are different. SO what is the % complete compared to the % work complete?

    Robert,

First of all, is your version of Project fully updated?

Does the summary task have any milestones under it? Are all tasks auto-scheduled? Do you have resources assigned to the summary?

Take a look at the Actual Duration field. Do any subtasks show an actual duration that is less than the Duration field? What is the duration and actual duration for the summary task?

    John

Greetings, did you ever solve this issue with the summary task showing 99%?  I am encountering this issue as well and looking for a solution.  All my sub tasks are at 100%.

HI - thanks very much for the reply.  In the summary task the  %Complete column shows 99% and the % work complete column shows 100%.

I'm still confused what is happening with this.

When I updated the 1st of the 5 sub tasks to 100% work complete, the Summary task % Work Complete field updated to 100%.  I'm thinking the summary task shouldn't show 100% work complete until all 5 tasks are complete.

This isn't happening for other parts of my schedule that have tasks with the same configuration.
