Hi there,

I have uploaded about 17000 files to SharePoint online via a mapped drive into document libraries, each with many folders.

It appears that the files are checked out, How do I check in all Files at once in all the folders without going through each individual folder?

I have turned off checkin/checkout in the document library but still my colleagues cannot see the files unless i check them in.

Thanks

Jamie

    Hi Jamie,

Based on my search, I didn’t find some articles about using PowerShell or script to multiple checking in all the files. You can try using SharePoint designer for multiple checking in:

    1. Install SharePoint Designer 2013.
    2. File>Sites>Open Site. You can also navigate to the library, click Return to classic SharePoint>setting gear>Ribbon:On>LIBRARY tab>Edit Library.
    3. In SharePoint Designer 2013, click All files in the left panel>choose the library (choose it, don’t access it)>click Check In>OK.

As I mentioned above, you may exceed the list view threshold limit. You can mange the library to avoid exceeding this limit. Otherwise, it may cause some unexpected issues.

Moreover, as you mentioned the page refreshes in Content and Structure page, you may change to another browser to check the outcome. It may be caused by there are too many checked out files.

    Best regards,

    Tim

    Hi Jamie,

You may try the following steps to see if you can check in all the files:

    1. Navigate to the root site of the library.
    2. Click setting gear>Site Settings.
    3. Click Content and structure under Site Administrator. If you cannot see it, you need to enable publishing featurefor both site and site collection level.
    4. Choose the library in left panel, change the view to Checked out to me.
    5. Select all the files>click Actions>Check In.

Moreover, for checked out files, other users should be able to see them. There is a green arrow at the left bottom of the file icon. You can first check from your side if files have the green arrow overlay. Meanwhile, as you mentioned there are 17000 files, you may need to manage the library referring to this article. SharePoint Online has a list view threshold limitation which is 5000. If we exceed this limitation, it may cause some unexpected error.

    Best regards,

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for tht, i tried and while i now get the options to  views documents checked out to me it doesnt seem to work all that happens is the page refreshes.

Is there a powershell command i could use that would check in all docuements? or is there a quick way Microsoft can check them in for me if i raised a service request.

You would think if you turn off checkin\checkout out in a document library it should remove that from the documents and automatically checkin all documents.

    any help is greatly appreciated.
