https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/storage-spaces/plan-volumes
The recommended maximum size for a volume in storage spaces direct is 64TB. Why? What happens if I choose larger ? This is not especially large...

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/refs/refs-overview
Here in he maximum volume size is 35 PetaByte for REFS

    Hi,

Thanks for posting on our forum!

Docs are Microsoft official document, so if it stipulates that:

Then you are supposed to follow the recommendation. In terms of the size for Refs, although this format itself can support up to 35 PT, you still need to follow the limitation for S2D volume. So, yes, 64TB is also the maximum size to Refs in this circumstance. Besides, you seems to be worried about the size that may be not enough for your environment. From my perspective, 64TB for a volume is not so small that we normally suggest our corporate client to use 64TB drive. In addition, there are many highly efficient ways for you to manage your storage space, such as dynamic disk, disk resizing, etc.

Thanks for your support! Besides, if you think my answer is helpful, would you please help me Accept Answer. An accepted blog can be put on top of our forum, so that people who have a similar issue can get access to their solution more quickly.

    Hello, Thanks for the answer!

A practical question: What would be the best way to create a 1 Petabyte SMB share with Storage Spaces Direct ? We have currently an isilon solution.

    Best,
    Jonas.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick reply!

The best practice for you to configure your S2D is based on your production environment: what you will do for using S2D. In this case, you need more professional guidance. So, here is my suggestion:

    1. You can contact Microsoft Customer Support and Services where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more customized plan for your configuration. Remember to open a common advisory case not a common issue case. You may find phone number for your region accordingly from the link below.
      Global Customer Service phone numbers:
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13948/global-customer-service-phone-numbers

    2) You can consult with your vendor.

Thanks for your support! Besides, if you think my work is a little bit helpful, would you please help me Accept Answer. An accepted blog can be put on top of our forum, so that people who have a similar issue can get access to their solution more quickly.

    BR,
