Word 2016 crashes when using Equation Editor

I'm having an issue when I try to use the equation editor where I can type, but when I try to add an element from the design bar, all I get are blank boxes and then Word proceeds to crash.

A previous question similar to this had a solution to install the Cambria Math font, but I have that font installed on my computer. I've tried repairing Office 365 and re-installing Office 365, but neither solution can fix this issue.

The picture below shows the issue I have.

Hi, I have the exact same problem with Word 2016. I think it started to happen around the time of the Creators Update. I have tried the main troubleshooting steps (online repair and re-installing full Office 365). Every time I try to edit equations, inserting a fraction or script will freeze Word (Not Responding). I am patient and wait until it unfreezes (minimum 10 seconds), but then every click in the window freezes Word again.

When in Task Manager at the same time, I notice that my Memory, CPU and Disk usage is not affected when I trigger the freeze, which makes me think it is a software issue and probably not a hardware related issue.

I started having exactly the same problem but it was with an old version of Word (2007), so I've bought and installed the newest version of Office AND IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. As soon as you try to put a fraction in it crashes. So it's clearly not an up-to-date version issue. There seems to be some connection with the printer spooler as it would try contacting the printer spooler while it was hanging like in the screen capture. Also it would crash when you try to print. I'm guessing it's not a coincidence Windows did an update last night — everything was fine before that.

Check to see if your Office installation is up to date via File>Account>Update Options.

Try repairing the Office installation as detailed in the Knowledge Base article at:
