Windows Update History - Prerequisite Patches

Hi,

We use WSUS and have identified a 2016 Server that was last updated in 2017. The July 2021 update has been approved but is not being advertised to this server. WSUS is saying this server is 100% installed.

I can only imagine because the July 2021 patch over the course of 4 years somewhere has a prerequisite patch, and that prerequisite patch has a prerequisite patch and so on and so on.

Rather than blanket approving every update in WSUS since 2017, is there really quick and easy way of finding the "prerequisite update history" to just approve those necessary updates to be able to get up to the July 2021 update, i.e.:

July 2021 needs December 2020
December 2020 needs February 2020
February 2020 needs November 2019
November 2019 needs March 2019

etc. Update History website says July 2021 updates has no prerequisites.

Thanks

    (I'm assuming (v1607) It should just need the latest SSU to satisfy prerequisites.

    @Lanky Doodle
    Thanks for your posting on Q&A. I agree with DSPatrick. Please follow his suggestion first to install the latest SSU first and then we could try to install the latest CU.

    @Anonymous Thanks for your solution.

    Please share the result if there are any updates of the case.

    Regards,
    Rita

    In my opinion, the servers have to install the SSUs first before installing the latest CUs. So please consider approving the latest SSUs for servers first and then we could try to approve the latest CUs.

    In addition, we could review the below links to confirm the update history.
