Hi,
Problem: I am trying to figure out how get "gotfocus" to work -- or something that tells me when one enters the inkcanvas

I have a texbox, that when you enter we show a ListView (the user can select from the listview in which case we can collapse the ListView or can type in something other in the textbox I want to collapse the listview). When they tab to inkcanvas I want to collapse the listview.

Hello, have you tried AutoSuggestBox? It matches your description and has the light-dismiss feature. When you click on the external area, it will close the automatic suggestion list.
