I have uploaded two copies of your document to the following folder of my OneDrive

https://1drv.ms/w/s!AmuIXmFDy-1agYJ2BMKd\_IPtsjSyLw

The file Davys-scientific-report-docx, was modified in a xml editor to overcome the issue with the mis-matched tags, and while it passes an MSXML 6.0 validity text, it causes Word 2010 running under Windows to crash when an attempt is made to open it.  It also not possible to open it in OTHER THAN READING MODE in Word OnLine.  In Reading Mode, it appears as:

You may however be able to open that file on a Mac.

The other file - Davys-scientific-report - Recovered.docx is a copy of the Davys-scientific-report.docx that was opened in Google Docs and then created by using the Make a copy facility in that application.  It does not contain the graphic elements that are visible in the above screen shot.

Let me know when you have retrieved these files from my OneDrive so that I can delete them.
