Microsoft Forms data sync in excel stopped working

When I open a saved excel response file from Microsoft Forms, the data sync block is no longer active. When I go to 'my add-ins' to add it, it then appears but tells me I need to first create a form, this is when I'm in an excel file saved with form data in.

When I create a new Form and save the excel response file it now gives me the following error messages and after attempting to repair the file it still doesn't work. It doesn't work either if I create a quiz in Forms. Can someone please tell me what has happened since the new features were rolled out?

Thank you

Hi Liz,

We have received information from related team that Excel "Microsoft Forms data sync" add-in has been retired.

Regarding the two features included in this add-ins,

Score and grading support - it has been supported natively in Microsoft Forms

Data sync support – the team are working on the native support in Microsoft Forms

There is a similar thread in the following forum for your reference:

Ryan

    Hi,

Have followed your steps and I get the same error messages.

The add-in is called Microsoft Forms Data Sync.

I have tried creating both a new form and a new quiz and the same thing happens with both, I get the same error messages.

    thanks

    liz

    Hi Lizzy,

Based on your description, I understand that the Excel worksheet doesn't sync responses from Forms in Excel. If this is your scenario, please try the steps below to clear the cache files to check if this can be fixed:

    1. Type Microsoft Upload Center in the Search box, and then double-click it to open Microsoft Upload Center.
    2. Click Settings, and then click Delete Cached Files.
    3. Download a new xlsx document from Forms and open it in Excel to check the result.

If the issue, please share more information with us.

    1. Regarding"my add-ins' to add it", what's the add-in in Excel you are using to sync data.
    2. What if you create a new Form instead of Quiz and open it in Excel?

    Regards,

    William
