Edit toolbars in Acces2000 application

I have this old application - originally created in Access2000 - and it is still in .mdb format - and it says "Access 2000 file format" if I open it while holding the shift-key.

Here I have custom menu bars - drop-Downs with new menus. Most of these drop-Down menus simply open a form.

Now I have made a special Query - and I would like to open this (or a report based on the Query for that matter) from the menu.

But somehow I cant find a way to add a new menu-entry - I'm using Access 2010 now.

How is that done in 2010?

I'm glad you resolved your immediate issue.

As for the rest, trust me when I say this and much more was heavily commented about when 2007 came out (just Google and you will see many heated arguments on the subject, especially regarding the ribbon).  They have shifted away from what developers want/need and only care about the end-user experience.

My greatest agony is the fact that all tables and queries default show up right-to-left!

Not sure what you mean by that. Are you referring to Text data in your Tables and Queries? If so, and if they're reading as right justified, then something is wrong with your installation of Office or Windows. The only time you'd have right justified text would be when you have specified a language that reads in that manner, like Arabic.

Ribbon complaints were common when 2007 first showed up, and lots of developers simply did not like them. Their users, however, did and as we all know that's what drives our design elements. Now if I see programs with the older style menus it just looks ... dated and out of place.

I just installed my old Office2000 and made the change in a split-second...

I'm clearly not a fan of the ribbon. Or Access2010 in general for that matter. I missed Access2007- so Access2010 was quite a surprise to say the least - and not a nice one!

Frankly - nothing good has come with this update. It's all about looks and not about the purpose of things. The ribbon is one thing - I guess you can get used to it, but I always have to look on the internet to find out how to do special stuff - as it old logic of structuring menus has gone. And why take up so much of the height on the now common widescreen format...?

My greatest agony is the fact that all tables and queries default show up right-to-left! WHO wants that...? And I believe I can't even specify it somewhere in Access-properties to be left-to-right for all new tables/queries. It is so annoying!

And form design - why does it have to be full screen...?

It's absurd, but I keep a blank 2003-database as a template for all new applications. I make quite a lot of small "office automation tools" - and that is just too difficult in 2010. Sorry to say that.

To my knowledge you have 2 options:

    • Use Access 2003 or earlier to make changes
    • Convert things to new 2007+ Ribbons
