Dialog boxes are hidden behind Excel menu bar?

I think I am running version 14.5.5 in excel, but I can't tell for sure because of this issue.  Any time I pull up something that brings up a dialog box (about excel, file/page setup, etc), the dialog box only shows about 2/3 of the box.  This is extremely annoying as I try to format pages, etc.  The dialog box cannot be dragged anywhere to see the full box.

I am on OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.5.

How do I fix this?  I work in excel 90% of the time, and this is killing me.  I love the mac, but these MSFT programs are brutal.  Every time I upgrade something, I find a million bugs in excel.  My company will not allow anyone to be on a PC, so I need to get this figured out (again).

Yes, the dialog does indicate that your installation is at 14.5.5 which is most likely the cause of your issue. That build is nearly a year out of date. The current version is 14.6.6 as of 26 June.

Go to Help> Check for Updates, but before updating make sure to set MAU to check Automatically on at least a Monthly basis. Once the 14.6.6 update is applied run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions before launching any of the Office programs.

Note that if you don't have a constant internet connection you'll need to remember to manually check for updates on a periodic basis... MAU can check only if connected to the internet.

If you continue to have a problem reply with as much detail as you can provide, but it's pointless to chase symptoms if the software isn't current.

Thanks.  Do you know where can I go to see the issues for the most recent version of excel?  The last time I upgraded (last fall) there were so many issues with excel I had to roll it back.  I think I submitted 10 questions in the first week, all of which people responded "another bug".

I'd like to see the releases and what works, what doesn't work so I don't spend a week doing testing for MSFT instead of my day job.

Excel 2011 is no longer under development.

Excel 2016 is the latest version. There is no comprehensive list of known issues. Microsoft has been releasing bug fixes about once a month, and even more frequently for those who opt into the beta program. Maintaining such a list would be a full time job.

You can search the Excel 2016 forum for specific topics to see if there are recent posts about them.
