Workbook window not filling application window when maximized.

Hello All,

One of the girls I work with is having an Excel issue and asked me to help.  I've never seen it before, and nothing I've tried has worked.

She has a laptop and an external monitor using extended desktop.  The laptop is docked and running Windows10 Pro.  When Excel is on the laptop monitor, everything is normal.  When she moves Excel to the external monitor (which is larger), the Application window expands to fill the monitor, but the Workbook window does not expand to fill the application window.  Even when maximized, the workbook is still the same size as the laptop monitor (even though the application is sized correctly).

I've tried every combination of minimizing, maximizing and restoring that I could think of, and even tried to resize the window using VBA.  Nothing has any effect.  It's happening with every workbook she opens, so it doesn't appear to be file specific.

Below are a couple of screenshots showing the issue, since this is kind of difficult to describe in words.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks,

Mike

I have never seen anything exactly like this issue, and I have been unable to replicate it.

With the above being said, here is something that might be worth a try:

[1]  Click on the View tab.

[2]  Click the arrange all button.

    [3]  Click OK.

I am not sure if the above will fix this issue or not, but I would think it cannot hurt to give it a try.

The application window and the document window are maximized and you can't change their width when they are in that state. You have to first un-maximize one or the other or both first.

Use the Application.WindowState and Application.Windows(1).WindowState properties to inspect and manipulate the window states.

Thanks Anthony.  Forgot to mention I tried that in the original post.  Good thought though.

    Thanks,

Thanks Kevin.  I haven't used the windowstate property for anything before.  Let me do a little learnin' on it and I'll see if I can make it do anything.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll let everyone know what happens.

    Mike
