I have downloaded and installed a free template from BrightWorks. Currently it is running as a sub-site. Is it not possible to set up a new site with this downloaded template?

Hi Michael,

The option to create a site collection using a template is available in the SharePoint Admin Center,  i.e: https://contoso-admin.sharepoint.com where contoso is your company's domain name.

If you are not a SharePoint Online Administrator, you do not have access to the admin center, so you would need to contact your IT department to request the site.

Regards,

Sheen

    I don't see  Template Selection.

When I log into Microsoft Online and using the App Launcher go to SharePoint I see a left hand navigation, Following, Recent, and Featured Links. Up top there is "+ Create Site". Under featured links I see Team Site (capital T and S). Is this the top most site? It has more site settings options than the other sites I create using "+ Create Site".

    Hi Michael,

Generally, site templates can be used to create a new site collection by:

    1. Navigating to the SharePoint Admin Center.
    2. Create a new private site collection and in the Template Selection, select Custom > Select template later.
    3. Go into the newly created site collection and upload the template to the Solution Gallery and Activate it.
    4. Go back to the home page of the site collection and select the recently uploaded template from the Custom tab.

    Regards,

    Sheen

If it's their project management site template, I imagine it has to be a subsite. I would ask them.
