Word Compare

I had two versions of one Word document. Different changes had been made and different comments had been added to each document document. I wanted one document with all of the comments and changes. So, I "compared" the documents and saved the compared version. The compared version has all changes and comments, however, it is significantly larger in size (MB) than either of the two original versions of the document. Is there a way to eliminate whatever codes are in the "compared" file so that the size will decrease?

Thank you

Probably if you Accept all of the changes that appear in Document C and save it as Document D, you will end up with a document that is reduced in size.   To be on the safe side, make a copy of Document C before doing that.

No, I am not referring to the comments. Let me reword my question and that might help.

I had two versions of one Word document, document A and document B. They were both the same document, but I sent document B to another person to review and make comments. While they were doing that I was making changes to document A. I wanted one document with all of the comments and changes that had been made to document A and document B. So, I "compared" the documents A and B and saved the compared version as a new file, document C. The compared version, document C has all changes and comments that had been made to both A and B, however, it is significantly larger in size (MB) than either of the two original versions of the document. The file size for documents A and B was 16 MB for A and 16 MB for B. Document C is now 22 MB. Is there a way to eliminate whatever codes are in the "compared" file, document C so that the size will decrease? I tried just copying sections of document C into a blank document but the copying process apparently also captures whatever codes or data is hidden in document C that makes it so large.

    I hope this is clearer.

    thank you

    Hello Ronald,

For better assistance, we would like to know more information about your concern.

    • Are you referring to the Comments that you will see in Details tab of Properties?
    • Does the issue occur on one of the document only?

Kindly provide us a screenshot of the window that you are referring where you see the size of the document.

    Regards.
