Conditional Formatting Help - Alignment and Wrap Text issues

I am running macOS Sierra ver. 10.12.1.  I am having issues using excel for mac 2016.

My problem is when using conditional formatting.  The targeted cells for conditional formatting are only supposed to change color.  However, once conditional formatting is activated in target cells, the cells lose all alignment and wrap text settings.  How do I ensure that the conditional formatting formula only changes the color and nothing else?

    Hi AAlpha1234,

There are many causes why the format is lost when you use conditional formatting:

    • First, please make sure that your workbook is being saved in native Excel format. If you are saving it in the older Excel 97-2004 format, then it is possible that the losses you are seeing are due to the formatting not being supported in the older format.
    • The other possible cause is that the workbook file is corrupted in some manner. The solution is to transfer your data from the current workbook to a new workbook and then see if the problem occurs in the new one.
    • Is it possible that you are opening the Excel file which was originally created in older version of Excel?

To troubleshoot the issue further, I would like you to confirm the following information

    1. Confirm your exact Excel 2016 version. To check, go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel. In the dialog box that opens, the version number appears in the middle.
    2. To test, please create a simple table in a new spreadsheet in Excel 2016 and use conditional formatting to highlight duplicate values and check the outcome.

Please reply with the above information and also check the above points.

    Thanks,

    Neha

You can take care of any tidying up using a Macro.

BTW - your install is a bit out of date. You should install updates (although they won't affect the answer to your question)

    Mac OS X updates:

To get Mac OS updates, go to the App store on your dock, and then click the Updates button to reveal available updates.

    Office Updates

    To get the update:

    1. Open any Office application:
    2. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection
    3. Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates
    4. Let AutoUpdate check for and install updates
    5. Restart your Mac
