Excel 2007 - Hyperlink - Unexpected Error

I've been searching and trying everything but can't find a solution.

I keep getting the "an unexpected error has occurred" error after creating a hyperlink in excel and then trying to click on it.  I've used hyperlinks a million times in the past at a previous job, now at a new job (new computer/setup) they're not working.   I tried a suggestion I saw to open excel in safe (all programs ->accessories->run: excel /safe) which didn't work either.

Does anyone have any other suggestions short of downloading and installing programs from unverified sites?

OK so I tried a few more things today and discovered that it will actually open up other excel files or word documents, just not PDFs and I think it's because I do not have Adobe on my system.  Our IT dept has installed "Nuance" instead.  I'm trying to play around to see if I can find anything in the default settings that might be making this happen.

I selected the cell, right click and select Hyperlink.  What is the formula for it?  I'll give that a whirl.

I never thought to try linking to google.com, but when I did it worked, no problems.  Any document on my computer that I try to link to won't work.

I contacted Microsoft support yesterday ran a repair on the programs, rebooted and it still didn't work.  From searching the web, it looks like this is a common issue but I've yet to find a solution.

Side Note: This is my work computer so I'm some what limited to what I'm able to download and install.

    Hello,

how is the hyperlink created? Formula or Insert>Hyperlink?

Does the problem come up with all links, even a simple link to googl.com?
