OneNote 2016 - Cannot use inking in a table?

I spent some time setting up a OneNote template with a table for Cornell Notes. Now that I've got that all set up, I can't seem to write (ink) in the table. Every time I try to write in the table, OneNote creates a new note container. Even if I place my cursor in the table using a mouse and then ink in the same spot, no luck. Is there a trick to inking in a table, or is this simply not possible? Typing, of course, works just fine, but that defeats the purpose - I want to write my Cornell Notes using the inking feature.

As we reviewed OneNote 2016, it turns out that inking feature inside a table is not available.

I know how to use the inking feature. I'd like to know whether the inking feature actually works inside a table, because it does not appear so. Please refer to my original post for details.
