One note naming

Has anyone run across naming problems in OneNote that are as follows:

We are using one note for customer files and documents, so several hospital/customers have facility names that begin with ST. or Saint ___.

I have 2 customers, then when i added the third ST. ___, one note did not let me complete the name, and allowed only ST to populate the name. then there was confusion, and it mixed up some of the tabs and duplicated as if they were all the same notebook.

i had to rename the last ST_something to get it to take a new notebook. Has anyone experienced similar naming issues in one note? what is the solution, and is there a limit to how many notebooks can start with similar characters? what is the solution?

Hi All,

I'd like to make a summary about this case here, so other community members who come across this thread will easily find the useful information.

==============

Issue description:

We create the notebooks in the OneNote client. When the notebook name contains dots (E.g.: ST.Abbey), the part after the dot will be disappeared and it will create a new notebook named ST.  If we create another notebook, e.g.: ST.Regis, it will also create a notebook named ST and the contents in these two notebooks will be merged together.

Workaround:

Use OneNote Online instead.

More information:

We have got the updates from the relate team that the dot(.) character is not supported when creating notebooks in the OneNote client. We will not fix this issue.

==============

Thanks for your understanding.

Sky

    Hi Janreid,

    If you created the notebook from OneNote client and encountered the issue, I suggest you try creating the notebook from SharePoint Online by the New button to check the outcome. We can create notebooks with dot in the name from online.

    For the limitation of the notebook name created from OneNote client, we will consult our related team for it. I will post back if there are any updates.

    Regards,

    Linda
