word document data missing for one full day

I am working on a macbook air, running Yosemite with microsoft Word 12.3.6. I worked on a (very long) word document yesterday. Then i get on an airplane (not sure if this is relevant).

When I open the document today, none of the changes were saved, it is just the blank template I started with. I definitely saved it before closing.

What is odd, is that when I look at "open recent" in the word menu, nothing at all from yesterday shows up.  Documents from today and 2 days ago do show up.

A document that I saved but did not close yesterday is fine. I have tried several recovery options such as everything on the following link, and had no success. any thoughts??

    Hi,

To better assist you with the issue you're having with a Word document, we'd like to ask if you have tried searching for the same document name on your computer to see if you have saved a copy of it with a slightly different name or different location.

We suggest that you check the properties of the file and see if its last modified date matches the date when you last edited it.

We look forward to your response.

    Thank you.
