Is something interfering with Excel?

Split from this thread.

I'm using a late 2012 i7, 32GB RAM iMac. Like one of the earlier comments, it's like a bad film when I enter data onto a small, text-only, fresh spreadsheet. The characters appear about 1 per second after I have typed. Have tried restarts etc., but not dug into fonts etc - should I really have to MS? Excel 2016 has always been a bit sluggish, but this is ridiculous. It seems to have worsened considerably after recent updates. Using the same sheet on a lower spec W10 machine and it's showing no issues at all.

Are you using DropBox or other network location for file storage?

Are you using Page Layout view in your workbooks?

    Hi Alan,

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Based on your description, you have encountered sluggish Office 2016 for Mac applications for years. I would like to suggest you check the following:

        1. Ensure your Office is up to date.

        2. Perform a safe boot on your Mac to check if the issue persists: Restarted computer with pressing Shift Key.

        3. Use the Repair Disk Permissions option on Mac.

        4. Create a new user.

You can find more details in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/979949

If the issue persists, could you please provide the information below:

        1. Does the issue occur to all Office applications?

        2. The version of your operating system and Office.

        3. Detailed steps and related screenshots about how you encounter the issue.

        4. A screenshot about the message if you encounter any error messages.

    Regards,

    Yoga

Despite it being year end and we all have lots to do, Microsoft seem content to let us wallow in this sluggish condition of their making.

I run a business and this sluggishness issue is interfering with dozens of year end activities I must complete soon.  It is driving me insane.

It seems that Microsoft do not realize that when their bugs affect other businesses it diminishes the value of Microsoft products.  Again.

It would not seem to much to ask for MS to roll back the software to the prior version that did not exhibit this bug - but it appears instead that they are all off on Christmas holiday while we're forced to wait - sometimes several seconds for a cell to update.

    This is far from acceptable.

As to Microsoft's recommended workaround, IT DOES NOT WORK MORE THAN ONCE.  After that - sluggish-ville all over again.

Come on Microsoft - you are HURTING OUR PRODUCTIVITY WITH YOUR LACK OF RESPONSE TO A SERIOUS BUG.  GET THE LEAD OUT.

    Hi Bernie,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

If you are using Office for Mac 2016 version 15.29.1(Go to theExcel menu and choose About Excel to check the version of Excel), please try the workaround below to check the result.

    1. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility
    2. Uncheck all the applications listed under Allow the apps below to control your computer. Restart Excel to check the result.

Note: Revoking accessibility permissions from 3rd party apps in the steps above will likely cause the 3rd party apps to stop functioning as intended. Re-enabling permission (Re-checking the checkbox) should return the 3rd party apps functions to norma l.

Meanwhile, we have set a primary thread as below, you can refer to the thread if this is your scenario:

Word for mac 2016 version 15.29.1 (161215) runs very very very slow when editing big document.

Please share more information if this is not your scenario.

    Regards,

    William
