Multiple Files Opening

I have a Mac, and when I click on an Excel or Word file, all of my Excel and Word files open up on top of one another on the desktop.  I cannot get only the file that I click on to open.  As far as I know, no settings on the computer have been changed (I am the only one with access), and it just started happening "out of the blue".

Please help.

Hi Dazed and Definitly Confused,

The files are opened because you didn’t close them when quitting the app. So, the system restored the files when you re-open the app. If you don’t want it to be like that, you can go to System Preferences > General and tick the option “Close windows when quitting an app”. When the option is selected, open documents and windows will not be restored when you re-open an app.

Thanks,

Ran

Make sure this is set like this as well.

(This only shows up when you restart the Computer.)
