Error loading navigation: The Managed Navigation term set is improperly attached to the site.

I'm trying to change a SharePoint Online Site back from Navigation by Term Set to Navigation by structure.

When I change from:

Managed Navigation: The navigation items will be represented using a Managed Metadata term set.

to

Structural Navigation: Display the navigation items below the current site

and then save the changes, I get the error in the subject line of this post. Error loading navigation: The Managed Navigation term set is improperly attached to the site.

Any suggestions?

This issue resolved itself over time.

Basically, I changed the setting back to use the Term Sets I had created before, took the weekend off, came back on Monday and changed it to Structured Navigation. This time, no errors and it worked just as I expected.

I'm not sure how to mark this issue solved as I can't mark my own post as "Solved my problem"

On an unrelated note, I can't overstate how much I miss the O365 Pros Yammer Network. My usage of official MS channels for support has gone from 100% to nearly 0%.

    Hi WN Anthony,

May I know if you run into the error when change Managed Navigation to Structural Navigation via Settings > Site Settings > Look and Feel > Navigation > Global Navigation / Current Navigation > select Structural Navigation > OK. If so, please refresh the site several times to see if the issue can be fixed. If the issue persists, could you provide the following details?

    1. A screenshot about the error and the Correlation ID including in the error massage.
    2. Did you create some term sets via Managed Navigation: Term Set > Create Term Set as below? If so, could you share with us a screenshot about the term set in Term Store Management Tool?

    1. The detailed steps to add the Term Sets in the site collection.

    Regards,

    Shirley
