Document views when using the Compare function in Word 2016

I am working with Word 2016 and using the "Compare" function for 2 Word documents.  When I open each document individually (not using the compare function) both documents open in "Print Layout".  As soon as I use the Compare function, the compared document changes to "Draft" and I can't seem to change it back to Print Layout.  This is causing an issue with our organization's internal review of these documents.  Can someone help??

The Compare function displays a specific view of the document; it doesn't change the display of documents permanently (as you have noticed). Perhaps someone could help if you clarified why there is a problem how Word displays the combined documents. For what it is worth, Word 2016 isn't the first version that uses the specific "Combine view."

    Hello,

    1. Yes,  I went to the View Tab and clicked on Print Layout
    2. No I did not receive an error message.  When I clicked Print Layout, nothing happened.  The content in the document would disappear, I would then click on the document again and everything would show back up but still in Draft view.
    3. I’m not sure how to find this out.

    Thank you for your time!

    Hello Kara,

Please provide us more information before we proceed.

    1. How did you try to change document view by going to View tab>Print Layout?
    2. If yes, what happens when you try to change the view? Do you receive any error message?
    3. Are you working on domain network?

Reply with necessary information and the result to help you further.

    Thank you.
