Office 365 Partial User Migration

We are researching a migration to Office 365.  We have a single domain that has users split into 2 groups with 2 different UPN suffixes but one registered domain name.  Lets call it abc.com and the 2 UPNs we will call staff.abc.com and sales.abc.com.  We currently have Exchange 2010 on premise with a MX record for abc.com (also own the abc.com domain name.

What we would like to do is migrate sales.abc.com to Office 365 and leave staff.abc.com on premise.  We plan on using ADFS for SSO integration to Office 365 users.

Is this a workable scenario?
