Office "Open" errors after unhiding AppData

Windows 7 & Office 2010 --- I had need to "Unhide" my system's %AppData% folders. Once I did so, every time I try to open a Word document, or just launch Word, I get these error windows.

  1. First error window shows:  "Word cannot open this document template. (C:\Users\ .......~$Wiz14s.dotm)"
  2. When I click OK, then I get this error window:  "The add-in template is not valid. (C:\Users\ .......~$nereader6.sprint.dot)"

It appears the "unhiding" created temporary files somewhere. I ran Office REPAIR - but that did not fix the problem. Any ideas?

It is very unlikely that unhiding the AppData folder caused the issue.

However, it sounds like there are some corrupt files in the Word Startup folder under AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup  Either delete them, or move them to another location and then start Word.  If it then starts OK, you can move them back one at a time until you find the one(s) that are causing the problem.

SOLVED - Thanks Doug. This problem did occur immediately after "unhiding" AppData. Went to folder you specified and found "%duplicate%files%". Removed them to temporary new folder on desktop and restarted Word, - worked fine.
