Converting OemOobe.Document back to Excel

My laptop crashed while I am in a foreign country, I had to purchase a replacement and load office 365 on it so I could still do my work online.

The problem I have is that All of my pre existing Excel files are showing as OemOobe.Document files

I found a way to open them individually; however I have 100+ spreadsheets for differing departments that are screwed up now and I need a way to fix all of them at one time. There are most likely more that co-workers will be notifying me about in the future.

Several (50%+) of these spreadsheets took hundreds of hours to write the macros for and this more than a little irritating.

    Hi TzadiJames,

Please use the following methods to set Excel as default program and see if the issue can be fixed:

    Method 1:

    1. Right click in the OenOobe.Document file and select Open with
    2. Click More apps and select Excel.
    3. Tick Always use this app to open .xlsx files.
    4. OK

    Mothod2:

    1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set your default programs.
    2. Select Excel 2016 and click Set this program as default to set the program as the default program for all file types and protocols it's capable of opening. We can also click Choose defaults for this program to pick out individual file types and protocols from the list.

If the issue persists, to narrow down the issue, could you confirm the following details?

    1. Which version of Office is installed on your computer?
    2. About “all of my existing Excel files are shown as OemOobe.Document”, could you share with us a screenshot?

    Regards,

    Shirley

    Hi TzadiJames,

To move forward, could you give us more detailed information about “I was hoping to find a way to do multiple files at once” for us to narrow down your requirement?

Moreover, which version of the Excel client are you using?

    Thanks,

    Cliff

    Hello Shirley

    Thank you.

I was hoping to find a way to do multiple files at once, however that does not appear to be possible.

I am just hoping that the spreadsheets I create now, will be compatible with other versions of Excel, as I am not sure what all versions and systems those that I am making the files for are using.

I find it odd that Microsoft would make things difficult for customers that have purchased and used their products for years. Guess that is just the nature of business now days; make changes and leave no way for customers to have simple fixes for compatibility or to voice their disapproval with changes they have no choice but to accept.
