I purchased the Office 365 University today and followed the steps listed, But ...

I get the below error message, after I select the link in my Microsoft Academic Verification email. It acts as if it is setting it up then the this Runtime Error Page comes up.

**Description:**An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "O

I have no clue what this means or if I have missed a step. Can you assist with any help?

    hi jack,

to understand your exact situation, could you help to answer the following questions?

    1. do you mean when you click the "access your office 365" link from the setup email, then you got the runtime error?
    2. could you capture the screenshots about the verification email and the runtime error?

to insert a screenshot, please click use rich formatting >![](http://fud.community.services.support.microsoft.com/Fud/FileDownloadHandler.ashx?fid=0638d8a6-4510-4e9a-8e4e-7973eb42ffe1)   insert/edit media > browse... > insert.

    1. will the issue occur if you copy the link and open the url in other browsers or inprivate mode?

    thanks,

    frank

    Hi,

There is an update. I was able to download Microsoft Office, however when I go to use Word or Excel the program asks me to activate in which I use my student email address and password (as I purchased the office as a student as I am in college) and it says it could not recognize my username - but this is where my verification email was sent. Next I decide to use my Hotmail email address - then I receive an error message that I have installed on 2 computers - which I have the current one and my daughters.

I have an Lenovo mini laptop i purchased last year but the track-pad stopped working after I downloaded Windows 10 , so I do not use it any longer but I was able to download Microsoft Office.  I am wondering is this and my current purchase cross paths in error some how.

I do not know what to do next, but i need to use my home computer and my daughter needs to use her laptop I just bought her.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jackie

    Hello,

I am having the same problem with one of our users.  It only happens on specific Office 365 tenants, others have no issue.  The user only gets this error when using Internet Explorer 11.  The error looks as follows:

I have all of the pertinent sites in the trusted sites list such as *.onmicrosoft.com, https://login.microsoftonline.com/, *.dynamics.com. *.microsoft.com, *.microsoftcrmportals.com, etc...

I have tried resetting the internet explorer settings in advanced tab.  I have cleared all cached objects.

Connecting from Firefox or Chrome have no issue, Edge just says there was an error on the page, no specifics.

From what I have noticed, it happens right during the redirection phase, where you can see the address changing in the address bar.  Seconds after seeing "Redirecting", this error is displayed.

    Thanks,

    Kevin Jendro
