speak selected text

I've install the Speak Selected Text (NOT using "Narrator" in Ease of Access)  as directed, to use in proofreading a Word doc (Office 365). However, when I select some sections, the icon is grayed out. For other selections, it works fine. Is there some formatting issue that makes the selection 'invisible' to the speaker?

Also, is there a limit to how much it will read? It seems to stop of its own accord.

I have been having this problem occasionally as well, and today I discovered that at least in my case, it had to do with the language setting. The language of the text I was trying to get Word to speak was set to German. As soon as I set the language to English, the Speak Selected Text button became available.

I did that already, as I stated in my previous reply. What I want to know is why sometimes the icon greys out when I start making my text selection. It doesn't happen all the time, so I wonder if there's some style setting or something in my document that the "Speak Selected Text" doesn't see.

    Hi Terry,

For us to better assist you, we would like to know what type of device are you currently using? Is it a desktop or a mobile phone? What is the exact name of the speech app that you installed and how did you install it?

We're looking forward to your response.

    Thanks.

I am using a Dell XPS all in one desktop PC. I didn't install any speech app. It's just the one that comes inside Word (I'm using Office 365). Where you go to customize the ribbon and choose "Speak".
