This is effecting all of my Excel files, and only Excel.  No other Office programs.  I even crated new workbooks to be sure.  When I enter data into a cell, after moving to the next cell either with the enter key, tab key, or arrow keys, there is a 5-6 second pause in all function, then the screen will flash white, the file name at the top shows (not responding) and then it goes back to normal working function.  this 5-7 pause in work adds up VERY QUICKLY and what usually takes me 10 minutes is taking 45 minutes, and is killing my workday.  please help!

    Hi Rocco,

There's a possibility that this issue occurred if your Office application is outdated or if changes were applied to it. Check first if Excel is updated. Open your application, then go to File > Account > Product Information > Update Options > Update Now

You can also check if this issue is caused by add-ins. Press Windows

    • R keys, type excel /safe, then click OK. If the issue is resolved, go to File > Options> Add-Ins > select COM Add-ins > Go. Click to clear all the check boxes (Disable the Add-ins) in the list, and then click OK. Once done, restart Excel.

Feel free to respond if the provided steps work for you.

I think I have the same problem. After entering data in a cell of an Excel worksheet, the mouse remains frozen for several seconds before I move it. If I hit enter after entering a value, the highlight moves to an adjacent cell, but the mouse still remains inactive for several seconds.

I have tried both of the above suggestions (updating and starting Excel in safe mode). I am working with Office 2016 on Windows 10. I have also tried the following additional suggestions from other forums that also didn't help:

    • Disabling hardware graphics acceleration (Options\Advanced\Display)
    • Disabling animate controls and elements inside windows (View advanced system settings\System properties\Options\Advanced\Display...)

The problem is irritating, and I would gladly replace Office 2016 with Office 10 if that were an option.
