Error code: 0xE0000007

Split from this thread about an unrelated problem.

I have been using OneNote for several years with no issues.  In the past week I have encountered this error message, "We ran into a problem syncing your notebook. (Error code: 0xE0000007)". From everything I have seen my system is still syncing.  Everything shows up on all of my devices (iPhone,  Web,  MacBook and iMac). it also shows up on all of my colleagues devices (PC's other Macs,  etc.).  I am running OneNote for Mac version 15.38 on macOS Sierra version 10.12.6.  I have tried everything listed in the OneNote sync issues.  I have four notebooks.  Two were showing this message and two were not.  I created new notebooks and tried copying my folders,  and the new notebooks had the same error.  I deleted the program and wiped all OneNote files from my computer and reinstalled.  When I did this all of my notebooks gave me the same error.  I spent two days trying to figure this out,  but since it seems to work I have this on my back burner now.  Any help would be appreciated as I know something isn't quite right.

Hi Ulli,

Thanks for reporting the issue.  I'd like to make a summary about the thread, so other community members who come across this thread will easily find the useful information:

Issue Description

You get a OneNote sync issue as below when syncing notebooks stored in your personal OneDrive, after updating OneNote version from 15.37 to 15.38

Note before proceeding: A community member has suggested that this error may be a false positive. It means that even though OneNote displays an error,  your notes are still being synced through the cloud. You're welcome to check this by making some changes through OneNote on your Mac and then logging into OneNote Online and confirming if the changes are synced.

If OneNote is syncing, we suggest monitoring the thread for updates. Only proceed to the workaround  if you absolutely do not want to see the sync error.

Workaround

Go to the Update history for Office 2016 for Mac page via the following URL:https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Update-history-for-Office-2016-for-Mac-700cab62-0d67-4f23-947b-3686cb1a8eb7 -> Scroll down and look for 15.37 and find the link for OneNote ->  go into your Applications folder and move Microsoft OneNote 2016 version 15.38 to the Trash and emptied the trash. Then you install the 15.37 version and keep the rest of your Office 2016 apps at 15.38 version.

We are going to report the issue to related team for further investigation.  Please subscribe to the primary thread for further updates. To help others easily see this information, we will be locking the thread.

    Hi,

I have the same problem "Error code: 0xE0000007" with the lastest Mac client.

    • My notebook is stored on Personal OneDrive.
    • Running Mac client version 15.38 (170902).
    • No problems prior to this build.

    Please advise.

    Thanks,

    Ulli

    Hi Scnorton11,

To investigate the problem, we'd like to confirm the following information with you.

    1. Where you stored the notebooks, are you stored the notebooks in OneDrive for Business or your personal OneDrive?
    2. Does this problem only happen when you updated to 15.38?

    Regards,

    Tisky
