XML Font Theme: System font fallbacks

Is there a way of specifying a system font fallback in the font theme XML?

What i'd like to occur is if a custom font isn't installed on a users system, the font defaults to a standard system font e.g 'Arial'.

I've been doing some cross platform test and have got some varying results:

  • Office 2010 PC & Office 2011 Mac - Defaults to Arial
  • Office 2016 PC - Defaults to Calibri
  • Office 2016 Mac - Defaults to Times New Roman

If it' snot possible to specify in the font theme XML, is there any other way of controlling what font it defaults to?

The underlying operating system *should* supply the closest available alternative from among the the fonts installed on the system, though in the case of display type, these can be quite different;  what's a good substitute for e.g. Broadway when Broadway's not installed?

I don't know of any way of specifying the fallback font, but it's a GREAT feature idea.

I'd definitely submit it at User Voice

The MS developers will see it there and if it gets enough votes, will consider implementing the feature, so if you submit it, reply back here with the URL so others who see this discussion will upvote your suggestion.  I certainly will.
