Receiving authentication error when trying to pull data From Web in Excel 2016, not Excel 2013

Hi Community,

With Excel 2016, I'm receiving an error trying to get data "From Web." Curiously, it works just fine if I use a computer with Excel 2013 installed.

When I access the Data Tab and select "From Web," I can input my URL, but am then kicked over to the Access Web content tab and am presented with several different options (Windows, Basic, etc) where I am able to input my username and password in various formats, none of which work.

A couple key points:

  1. I promise the username/password combo I'm putting in is correct.
  2. This works on Excel 2013, but not 2016.
  3. It did work on Excel 2016 until maybe 2 weeks ago.

Any thoughts, suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Ariel,

Thanks for responding! I did just update and unfortunately, I'm seeing the same problem. Any other thoughts? Please let me know if you'd like me to provide you with step by step instructions on how I'm seeing this error - though that will entail setting up an account with my organization's website.

    Regards, Ben

    Hello Ben,

We need to isolate this issue so that we could identify what's preventing you from using the "From Web" option in Excel 2016. Have you checked if you install the latest Office updates for your Office 2016? If not, we suggest that you install the update to your computer so that we can see if that helps to fix the issue. If your Office 2016 is already updated and still got the same issue, we suggest you repair your Excel app to scan and repair corrupted files that may affect its functionality.

We look forward to your update.
