Error Saving Protected/Encrypted Excel Document

I receive the following message when trying to save any changes to a password-encrypted file:

"Errors where detected while saving [file name]. Microsoft Excel may be able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in a new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel."

If I press continue, the save fails. I am unable to copy the data into a new excel file and save that one instead, because I must password-protect that file as well and when I do, the same error occurs. I have tried creating a new blank protected file as well and get the same error, so it is not my data. It happens on all computers that I use (Windows 8 and 10).

Password-protecting the document at all times and saves is non-negotiable, and it contains sensitive information for research and I am bound by my ethics contract.

Thank you for any help, insight, or guidance!

    Hi Tiffany,

First, we'd like to confirm that do you have any images inserted in the Excel workbook? If so, please try to remove the images and check if the issue persists. If the issue disappears, please try saving the images to local and re-add the images back from local to see the result.

You can refer to this article: How to troubleshoot errors when you save Excel workbooks.

If the steps above doesn't help, we'd like to confirm more information with you.

    1. Does this problem happens to a non-protected workbook?
    2. Please provide the version of Excel to us, you can check it in File > Account.

    Regards,

    Tisky
