Sort function in Excel 2016

I'm trying to sort my spreadsheet based off of one of the columns. I'm using Excel 2016 (a real POS in my opinon)

I click on data, but the sort and filter options are all grayed out, except for the advanced option, which is no help to me.

I don't know why the option is not available to me.  I have another spreadsheet open and I can sort that one.

This is a new spreadsheet, I've just imported data from a text file and now I need to sort the data.

    Hello Hjaye,

The document might need to enable the editing option. This concern happens when you tried to open an existing file saved on your File Explorer or a file that is sent on your email.

Make sure that you have click the Enable Editing button if you just re-open an existing document.
