Increase paragraph spacing

Previous versions of PowerPoint had a button option to increase paragraph spacing or decrease paragraph spacing.  It seems now I have to enter the paragraph menu group, select Line Spacing Options then adjust before or after.  This seems like a lot more work than clicking a button, that would show you real time adjustments.  My question is there someway to restore this function, or a hidden menu item that I am not finding?

Just some thoughts :-)

Despite the convenience of the Increase/Decrease Paragraph Spacing buttons available in prior versions they did have limitations;

  • They adjusted only Space After with no control over Space Before, &
  • Although "realtime" they were locked into 6 pt increments

In view of the fact that they are gone & may not return, you might find it more expedient to use the built-in keyboard shortcut Option+Command+M which directly opens the Paragraph formatting dialog. As you probably know, you then can set both Before/After much more precisely (.01 pt increments).

Unfortunately, no.  What you've seen is what we've been given.  Or a manifestation of what's been taken away.

    Thanks for the short cut, it will save a few button clicks.  I agree it had limitations, but for 90%+ of what I do it sure was convenient and fast.  In most cases I prefer the fast option verses the fine control in PowerPoint.  Now if we are talking about page layout and graphic design I see the Increase/Decrease Paragraph Spacing buttons as less useful.  I question if people were demanding and even need .01 pt increments for line spacing in creating PowerPoint presentations.  Then again I will readily admit I use only the basic features and it suits my needs.  Thanks again for the reply.

    Oh, there are plenty of other folks who feel the same as you do.  Count me in.   In fact, I had to rewrite my earlier reply a few times to remove the unpleasant things I'd written about the people who thought this misfeature up.

    It's here. And the PPT developers really do read this stuff.

    I figured as much, but couldn't find much outrage about it in my searches, so I figured either I was missing its new location or I may be one of the rare people that used the feature and now miss it.  I guess the latter is probably more true now.
