Hi,

Basically, I had to write this long, long, really long essay. It was a couple of moths ago and I was really proud of it. It was all for a competition and the due in date is not too long now. I really need it for the comp.

So I looked for it, opened it, and well... half my changes were gone.

It was half completed and I panicked. I can't/couldn't find any back-up version or auto recover saves, despite having auto recover saving every 2 minutes.

all that was there, was a half completed essay with an orange tab above the document, below the toolbar. It said "UPLOAD FAILED this file is locked for editing by another user"

I clicked on file and it was there again and this time it said, "UPLOAD FAILED: BLOCKED BY ANOTHER USER"

"Your changes were saved but could not be uploaded because this file is locked for editing by another user..."

"Last saved: 15/10/17"

It said the document was last saved the day I opened it, even though the last time I made changes or opened it was in august. Do you think this is the reason I can't find my changes and if so how do I get them back. UrGeNt!!!!

Thanks, Mo

    Hi,

Whenever you save a Microsoft Office document (Word, Excel or PowerPoint) to your local hard drive or to a fileserver, an associated temporary file is created to the same location as your MS Office document. However, you will not be able to see the associated temporary file from within the Finder because it is a hidden file.

The associated temporary file remains present in the same location as your MS document until you close your document.

The purpose of this associated temporary file is to lockout editing of your MS document to other users while you have it open. The associated temporary file also stores the name of the person who currently has the MS document open, and if another user attempts to open the document, it displays a warning dialogue (see below) to inform them that, “The file is locked for editing”.

In this case, we suggest to update to fix this concern by starting one of your Office applications like Word, and then clicking File > Account > Update Options > Update Now. After install the update, the Office version should be the latest.

For any other concerns, don't hesitate to get back to us.

    Regards.
