O365 API proxy connection

I am posting as a companyA employee, my customer’s name is companyB (no, not really the Roadrunner company).

companyA’s FNMS connects to the internet (with O365 listener) through a terminating proxy in the companyB tier closest to the internet. This is encrypted on the other side of the proxy (Acme’s standard). companyB wants to have the option to inspect traffic before it leaves the customer environment per their multi-tiered standard. When companyB worked on a different effort with Microsoft, companyB was expected to set up a non-terminating proxy (sync between Azure-AD at companyB and target URLs at Microsoft) because it would be considered ‘man-in-the-middle’ attack if the connection was terminated and reinitiated. companyB created a security exception to accommodate this.

Here’s the question: companyB was given a target to integrate with companyA - https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/ - which requires a non-terminating proxy (to avoid the appearance of a man-in-the-middle attack). Will this link accept a connection from any of companyB’s proxies?

Thank you,

Akshay Agrawal

Hi Akshay Agrawal,

From your description I understand that you want to connect to remote Exchange online PowerShell via proxy servers. Based on my experience, we don’t have to change any settings for the connection between your local network and the Office 365 service. However, if there is a Proxy between this connection and make the connection issue,  I’d like you should involve the proxy provider at the first place to check the Proxy settings.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Regards,

Leo

    Thank you, Leo!

    Couple more pointed questions.

This is the link that we used to create a O365 adapter - using your public-facing API.

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/office365/howto/platform-development-overview

Q1 - Would this be a terminating or non-terminating connection?

Q2 - Would the outgoing connection from us to the API be https or http?

    Thank you!

    Akshay

Hi Leo, appreciate your response here. I have only one more question - are you replying on behalf of Microsoft, or are you a Microsoft employee? Thank you!
